A Generous Germanfest Milwaukee Community Donates to Kids
In a tremendous display of generosity, the Germanfest Milwaukee community and the Freistadt Alte Kameraden donated over $10,000 to children’s charities this week. It just goes to show you that a little effort, combined with a big heart adds up to some amazing things.
Germanfest Milwaukee Community Donates $10,000 to Kids
Eric Radue, the Germanfest President, members of the Germanfest Board of Directors, together with Dale Blank, Robert Forester and Al Klug of the Freistadt Alte Kameraden, met with representatives from Childrens Hospital of Wisconsin, Make a Wish Wisconsin, Ronald McDonald House Charities Eastern Wisconsin and MACC Fund at Mader’s Restaurant in Milwaukee for lunch, beers, and to pass along an enormous check to help the children of Milwaukee.
What was remarkable to me at the opening ceremony of Germanfest was that not only was German culture being celebrated, military personnel were honored, and children were brought out front to be recognized, and to enjoy a front row seat. Germanfest put their money where their mouth is. Despite the low ticket prices, they were able to donate $10,000 from their Sunday Gate earnings.

As for the Freistadt Alte Kameraden…. Whenever these guys play their signature song, Gloria, they head out into the crowd to collect dollars in their socks (a Blaskappelle version of Chippendales… but everyone keeps their clothes on!) for beer money. This time, they decided to make a huge sacrifice… all money collected during Germanfest, $1400 in small bills, was turned over to Children’s Charities… and the guys went (almost) without beer for the weekend. All for a good cause.
In order to keep German Culture thriving in Milwaukee, and America, it’s essential to embrace the next generation of children… and for Germanfest and the AK, that means all kids are important, and all kids should be nurtured and included. It warms my heart to see the good the German community can do.
