German Christmas smokers are incense burners that make your entire home smell like Christmas<\/strong>! These adorable figures come in the shapes of people, animals, and even little buildings. When you place an incense cone inside, light it, the smoke comes out and makes it look like the figure is smoking or breathing fire, or maybe it looks like a smoking chimney.<\/p>\n

Around Christmas, many households in Germany start to display German Christmas Smokers<\/strong>. But what are they are and how did they become a typical Christmas Decoration<\/strong>. For thousands of years, incense has been treasured. This precious commodity was traded and sold for vast sums of money. As precious as gold, it was even brought to the infant Jesus as a gift from the Three Wise Men. \u00a0Incense has been historically used to cleanse evil spirits, and to make the world a better smelling place.<\/p>\n

In the early 1800s, carvers in the Erzgebirge began carving R\u00e4ucherm\u00e4nnchen or Smokers to burn incense during the holiday season. They were meant to symbolize the gifts brought on the Epiphany Jan. 6, as well as clear out the spirits of the previous year. Traditionally the Smoker was in \u00a0in the form of a man with a pipe. The smoker is hollow inside, but has a small metal tray or ledge for the incense cone. A hole at the top, usually at the mouth, will allow smoke out. It looks like the little wooden figure is smoking!<\/p>\n

German Christmas Smokers<\/h3>\n

Today there are hundreds of different styles of German Christmas smokers! And they are super collectible! You will find everything from Santas to Dragons (the dragon with smoke coming out the nostrils is really cool!) There is a smoker for almost every profession.
