Christmas is the perfect time to treat yourself, and the best treat of all… German Christmas Chocolate. Smooth chocolate… filled with luscious nougat, or nutty Marzipan. Chocolate shaped like Santa or Snowmen. Pralines of all types. You can keep all the rest, I just want CHOCOLATES!
Fortunately, it’s easier than ever to get real German Chocolates here in the US. Kinder, Milka, Lindt! You will need a few Riegelein figures for the Bunte Teller, and you will want a few special Mozart Chocolates to bring a smile to your face.

I love Milka Chocolate (and who doesn’t love the Milka Cow?)… as much as I enjoy the fun flavors… the plain is a hands down favorite. The box of 10 bars should be enough to keep some for yourself, and add one to each of your gift cookie platters.
Milka also makes assorted chocolate truffles for the Christmas and Advent season.
Riegelein makes lots of delicious little chocolate figures … perfect for the Bunter Teller, or your Christmas Stocking. (and they fit nicely into shoes on St Nikolaus Tag)

German Chocolate Ornaments
You could Hang German chocolate Ornaments on the Tree or Accent the Wrapping on a Present
When I was young, my mom would add something special to our Christmas Tree… these edible ornaments are made from delicious chocolate, then covered with a decorative foil. There is a string attached to make hanging the ornaments a breeze.
I also love attaching the German chocolate ornaments to special Christmas Gifts for my kids or people I love. It becomes a nice treat for someone to enjoy while they are opening your gift. Either way German Chocolate for Christmas is a great gift.

These layered Chocolates might be famous in Austria, but they are ADORED in Germany
These sugary shapes dipped in chocolate were always on our Bunte Teller. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I realized it was Fondant. They look so pretty, and you can even hang them from branches of the tree.
Chocolate with Nonpareilles
These simple chocolate disks are another absolute must for the Bunter Teller. Delicious Chocolate… either a circle/wreath or star… is covered with little Nonpareilles (round sprinkles). They are so pretty, and make a simple addition to any dessert plate.
Asbach Uralt in Gift Boxes
Brandy Filled Chocolates
Asbach Uralt is known throughout Europe for fine chocolates filled with Brandy. Some are shaped like bottles, some like truffles, and others like beans… They are an adults-only treat.
But what a treat it is! Dark chocolate lined inside with a crisp sugar crust… when you crunch through it, the delicious flavor of Asbach Uralt brandy fills your mouth. mmmmmm
These candies were “verboten” for us kids… not just they are filled with alcohol, but because I’m pretty sure my parents wanted to keep them all to themselves. They really are quite tasty to an adult palate. (I do remember my then 2 year old son popping one in his mouth… the look on his face said he wouldn’t make that mistake again for a very long time!)
More Asbach Uralt chocolates will be listed as they become available for the season.
Filled Pine Cones
Pine cone shaped chocolates filled with creamy delicious fillings… some are alcoholic!
Fine German Chocolate Since 1910
Since 1910, Feodora has been making chocolates of the finest quality. Slow roasted, and finely ground cocoa beans make the best Chocolates… named for Princess Feodora, the sister-in-law of Kaiser Wilhelm.
Today, a box of Feodora Chocolate is a lovely hostess gift, or small gift for a friend.
Brandy Filled Pralines
Fruit brandies robed in Chocolate and nuts… I don’t have to tell you how addictive these are…
Mon Cheri -German Chocolate and Liqueur Covered Cherries
These liqueur filled Chocolate Covered Cherries are not the standard drug store treats. These are Chocolate Covered Cherries with a kick…. and are for Adults only.
My mother REALLY loves them. And a nice box of these Pralines would certainly be a welcome gift.
Assorted Fine Chocolates in individually wrapped finger sized bars that come in different flavors of chocolate; Nuts, coffee, marzipan, dark chocolate and praline. You could also get a fancy shaped box with Merci minis.

Niederegger Chocolate Covered Marzipan
Sweet Almond Paste and Chocolate
Made in Lubeck, Germany, Niederegger Marzipan is Almond Paste that is mixed with sugar to sweeten it, then covered with Dark Chocolate. Makes a lovely treat or gift.
My sister has always been the Marzipan fan in our house (I was Nougat)…. and she always found a big bar on her Bunte Teller. Slice the bar to make it last… Eating the whole thing like a regular candy bar is just too rich!!

Chocolate For Kids Kinderschokolade!
The wonderful thing about Kinderschokolade, is that it isn’t just for kids… we would enjoy some delicious chocolate treats during the holidays, and all year long.
These delicious finger sized bars are a sweet milk chocolate covering a milky white chocolate filling. Perfect for kids… and perfect for adults with a really sweet tooth!
I loved giving these to my kids when they were very small… the finger sized bars can be broken up into even smaller squares. One stick could be shared out between a few kids when they were very small, and one stick was enough of a “treat” for a bigger kid, without spoiling dinner.
Germans can not live on German Christmas Chocolates Alone!! There must also be …German Christmas Cookies!!
