German Christmas Baking Recipes: Traditional Recipes Made Easy by Christian Teubner
Christian Teubner has written a number of German Cookbooks, but “Christmas Baking” is one that I reach for all the time. Originally titled “Weinachtsbaekerei”, it covers all of the traditional German Christmas Cookie Recipes, and even a few cakes and breads. It’s a little book, but it is LOADED with great German Christmas Baking recipes!
Part of the problem with baking German Recipes in America, is that they have to be translated…. And the quantities have to be adjusted to American Measurements. This book does all the conversions for you. Don’t fear though, if you prefer to weigh out your ingredients instead of just measuring them, both measurements are there. The recipes have also been adjusted a bit so that the ingredients can be purchased outside the US.
German Christmas Baking Recipes
Each recipe is written in a fairly straightforward way, so that the recipe is easy to follow. For recipes with more steps, or concepts that might be more complicated, there are step-by-step photos. There is a photo of each item, so you can always see what the finished cookie or cake is supposed to look like.
I wish they had listed each recipe with both the English AND the German name. It would make searching for the recipe in the index a bit easier. However, like I said… each recipe has a photo, so if you are unclear about the name, you should still be able to recognize the photo.
When it’s time to do some German Christmas Baking, this little book by Christian Teubner can be your biggest help in the kitchen.
