Weihnachts Kinderpunsch Recipe- Warm Christmas Drink for Kids

At Christmas Markets and in homes, you find Glühwein for the adults at Christmastime. (My mother always left a pot on the stove Christmas Eve, and we would enjoy it during the Bescherung, or gift exchange) Warm wine, aromatic spices, it’s such a cozy feeling to hold the warm mug and breath in the delicious steam while sipping.  But the kids hated to be left out. They wanted their own warm drink in a mug. (And no Opa, you can’t just let him sip from yours!) This Weihnachts Kinderpunsch Recipe lets the kids sip their own toe-warming beverage without alcohol.

It’s also a nice replacement for the non-drinkers or designated drivers in your group. The spices are the same as the alcoholic version. You can even garnish the cups with orange slices to give it more citrus flavor.

Weihnachts Kinderpunsch Recipe

The recipe uses a few juices, familiar spices, and Hibiscus Tea. Use honey for sweetness, but taste it first! The apple juice gives the Kinderpunsch sweetness, but cherry juice and Hibiscus tea add a tartness that I really enjoy (and I honestly think the flavor is sweet enough). Kids might want honey. So, taste it, and judge for yourself.

The recipe as written makes around 5 cups of Kinderpunsch. Go ahead and double the juices and tea if you want more.

  1. Dear Karen. I really enjoy your cookbook. I thank you again for it. I been watching German Christmas shows on you tube and went through a box of Kleenex. Brought back so many wonderful memories of my Christmas in Germany as a child. I managed to make Russian tea cakes cookies. Everyone I know loves them. My daughter had to help me because I ca not stand up very long without excruciating back pain. She made the dough and I rolled it in to balls. They came out as good as always. In case I’m not on here before Christmas, I want to wish you and your loved ones a magical beautiful and blessed Christmas and a very healthy happy New Year. Love Gigi.
