Ravensburger Games & Puzzles for the Whole Family!
The first game that Ravensburger produced was “Weltreise“ (Journey Around the World), and it was one of my favorite games ever. I played it over and over… and learned geography along the way. Like most Ravensburger products, the game was engaging, well constructed and built to last. And our game closet was loaded with Ravensburger products because when my mom saw that blue triangular Ravensburger logo on a puzzle or game, she knew that she was looking at quality. Ravensburger games are designed to be played with over and over without falling apart. The puzzle pieces come together well, and don’t fray at the edges… and the pictures are top notch! Even the boxes are sturdy with no corners are cut or thin paperboard to make it cheaper.
A Ravensburger Game or Puzzle is a great activity that brings the whole family to the table. Best of all, there are some GORGEOUS Ravensburger Germany Puzzles with iconic images of German Castles and Scenery.

Ravensburger History-
The Ravensburger company was founded by Otto Robert Maier, in the town of Ravensburg in Upper Swabia, Germany. The Company started producing Ledgers and Folders during the 1880′s. Otto Maier found himself inspired by the educational reforms of the time. Friedrich Fröbel’s ideas of learning through play influenced him to shift to games and toys. The first was a variation of Weltreise called “Journey around the World” based on Jules Verne’s “Around the World in 80 Days”. Using the motto of producing products that entertained and educated “in the most excellent way”, the company brought out more books and toys for children and their adults. By 1891, Herr Maier created the “Geographical Puzzle”, a wooden puzzle that taught geography. (This kind of puzzle wasn’t the interlocking pieces kind… it was more like the shape sorter puzzles you see today). In 1927, Fang den Hut arrived in stores, and STILL holds a place in most German homes. The Memory Game followed in 1959. Then in 1964, Ravensburger produced their first cardboard puzzles with interlocking pieces after. And in 1974, the iconic blue triangle appeared on the box.
Through World Wars and economic slumps, the Ravensburger never slowed down or stopped production. They’ve won prestigious prizes like Spiel des Jahres, and opened a Ravensburger Theme Park (near Lake Constance). During the Covid-19 pandemic, sales of games and puzzles increased dramatically. (I know my shelves filled up). Otto Maier’s company still sticks to the original plan to bring the family together with playful quality content that has high entertainment value.
Ravensburger Games and Puzzles we Love
Like many German families, we are game players, so there are a lot of Ravensburger boxes in the game closet. Some have been in mom’s game-closet since I was a little girl, and they still hold up. And naturally, we puzzle. When the family comes together during the holidays… or on vacations… we bring out a big puzzle for everyone to help assemble. We can put the same ones together again since they don’t fray or rip when you take them apart.
Over time, I’ve collected some games for my kids. It’s quite a testament to the quality of the games that they are still intact, and although the cardboard pieces may be a little soft around the edges, they are still as “good” as they were they day we first opened the box. Games like Enchanted Forest and Labyrinth are great for the whole family to play. These aren’t games that make parents eyes glaze over, they are games that the whole family can enjoy.

Ravensburger Family Games
We have all of these games on our shelves, and all are great for families who like games with a little strategy. The most “complicated” is The Castles of Burgundy, but once you learn it, it’s a fun strategy game. The Enchanted Forest is a fun memory game for kids 8 and up, but with enough complexity that it’s fun for adults. I jokingly call The Quest for El Dorado a cross between a Candy Land and a deck building game (you collect cards that allow you to move forward along the path). But our new family favorite is a co-operative game called Horrified. Everyone works together co-operatively to defeat old time movie monsters. Don’t let Frankenstein and his Bride get together!
